As we move towards an increasingly global Information Society, the United Nations stands poised to contribute significantly as a catalyst for positive change in this new environment. This is especially true in light of its lead role in both phases of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS Geneva 2003 and Tunis 2005) and outlined clearly in Millennium Development Goal (MDG).

UNITAR’s e-Governance Programme provides decision-makers with a comprehensive set of skills-based and policy-focused learning opportunities in the area of ICT. The customized curriculum includes the tools and information necessary to formulate strategies and directions in conjunction with the results of the WSIS. UNITAR is currently conducting a pilot project in partnership with Microsoft which will utilize e-Governance Programme principles and methodologies in a series of one-day trainings for policy makers at the UN Headquarters in New York.
