UNITAR is implementing a 3-years training programme on local e-governance, focusing local governments decision-makers, raising their awareness on the necessity of a planned development of the information society in their respective municipalities.
What is a Digital Local Agenda?
A Digital Local Agenda is a strategic plan at city and regional levels for the development of the Information Society, taking into account social, economic and cultural environments. It is based on the participation of local actors.

The purpose of this initiative
To promote local democratic governance in developing countries by increasing citizen participation and enhancing local government effectiveness through the use of ICT.
The objective of this initiative
To ensure that a significant number of local authorities develop and implement their own Digital Local Agenda before 2010.
