The Theme of Cyber-Security

Friday 14 September 2007

The spread of the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) is accompanied by the security questions which become more relevant as more and more of our everyday activities are dependent on the technology. From early hackers who liked to boost about their “achievements” we have entered the age where cybercrime in its different forms has become a serious criminal activity. Moreover, the ever widening reliance on the ICTs has created new overall security risks that have to be urgently addressed.

Since cybercrime knows no borders, there is a need for concerted action. The International Telecommunication Union (ITU) has taken a leading role to prepare the international legal instruments to add to the early initiative of the Council of Europe. UNITAR will strive to play an active role disseminating the collected knowledge and bridging the gap between the specialists and decision-makers in the cyber security area.
